Thousands evacuate as hurricane Irene heads to Bahamas & U Add Video

After being shaken by Tuesday's earthquake, the East Coast of the U.S. is bracing itself to be hit by Hurricane Irene. Heavy rain and winds earlier battered parts of the Caribbean, sweeping through Cuba and the Dominican Republic. It's expected to become a category 4 hurricane as it passes over the northwestern Bahamas en route to the eastern US coast. No deaths or injuries have so far been reported.

Coastal North Carolina's Dare County has ordered all residents to move inland beginning at 8 a.m. Friday as Hurricane Irene approaches.
