Heartbreak & Grime Documentary

Since its inception in the early 2000s, Grime music has echoed the young black British experience of living in impoverished areas, but in what ways did it reflect and influence how those youngers interacted with each other on a romantic level?
As part of his Deconstruction of Roadman Culture series, Caleb Femi’s nostalgic documentary about teenage relationships in the early 2000s brings together a group of young black Londoners who, at the time, were immersed in a new sound that germinated from the estates and pavements they called home. Heartbreak and Grime is an illustrative account told through poetry, conceptual visuals and conversation of individuals whose stories are incredibly unique. As each person recounts their teenage experiences of trying to make sense of romantic feelings and their place in the gender paradigms that govern relationships, a wider conversation of how Grime perpetuated patterns of thoughts and behaviours of a deeply problematic nature such as sex, misogyny, hyper-masculinity, sexual abuse etc.

is an emerging creative collective of spoken word artists, creative writers, music producers and designers.
Four Brothers, born and raised in South London.
Dxggz 26, FazeOne 23, John, 20, are blood brothers of Nigerian descent. They grew up in Peckham, South East London and moved to Rotherhithe fifteen years ago.
Dxggz met Magero, 26, in 2005 over a pair of Nike shoes each was selling to the same guy.
Dxggz and Magero’s tight friendship has evolved into an art collective, they both are FLO Poets, a collective group of poets put together by the legendary artist 'The Floacist' of 'Floetry'. Dxggz and Magero regularly perform spoken word pieces at BoxedIN and FLO Vortex in Shoreditch.
FazeOne, the middle brother was a troublemaker at school. He tempered his rebellion through music when he was a teen, and is now an up and coming music producer in the UK.
The brothers met Claudine, the director of the documentary, one Sunday in May 2015, on the Rotherhithe Overground. They were standing in line on the empty platform, looming 6.3 tall, smartly dressed, interacting with one another in playful chemistry, which intrigued Claudine to find out more.
She asked 'What’s your story?' they replied 'We’re brothers'.
Nine months on, this first episode freezes an unexpected journey in January 2016 when Dxggz and Magero record Tunnel Vision, their first collaboration produced and mixed by FazeOne at Ana Calvi’s drummer Alex James’ studio in Bruce Grove, North London.
